Amelia Wynn Merges New Tasting Room With Bistro Fare

October 15, 2020

Paul Bianchi and Wendy Armstrong of Amelia Wynn winery and bistro

Amelia Wynn Winery has been producing small-lot wines on Bainbridge Island since 2008. As owners Paul Bianchi and Wendy Armstrong looked to merge the wine tasting experience with various foods, the bistro side of the business was born.

Paul’s history as a winemaker goes back decades after participating in his first crush more than 20 years ago. He sources all his fruit from Eastern Washington vineyards to make wines that showcase the varietal as well as complement a great meal.

In the new tasting room and bistro space, there’s a wonderful fusion of farm-to-table cuisine, house wines, regional beers and assorted ciders. Visitors can opt for a traditional tasting flight or a hot bistro style meal.

“The cuisine has been Spanish and Portuguese centric with a little bit of Island thrown in,” says Paul. Dishes include a Spanish lasagna, Portuguese boneless pork cassoulet, and their ever-popular paella. “The cuisine offers the opportunity to pair our wines with different food types and that is what the Amelia Wynn Winery Bistro is all about,” adds Paul.

Wendy is by trade a gifted artist and created the provocative artist series labels. In many ways, the wines are reflective of Paul and Wendy’s personalities—articulate, thoughtful and artistic. Attention to detail shows in each bottle.

The winery and bistro is located at 390 Winslow Way E, Bainbridge Island. Phone (206) 451-4965 or visit online at www.ameliawynnwinery.com.

Below are three wines we recently reviewed:

Amelia Wynn 2019 Tempranillo Rosé, $21
91 pts. – Outstanding
Pale peach hued, offering a slight effervescent feel backed with crisp minerality and refreshing flavors of red cherry, strawberry and pomegranate inlaid with lemon-lime citrus and orange peel hints. River rock and salinity linger on the dry finish.

Amelia Wynn 2019 Albariño, $22
91 pts. – Outstanding
This stylish version strikes a balance between fruity and minerally-driven expressions. The palate is brimming with rich flavors of lime, apricot, Sungold kiwi and green apple, with hints of honeysuckle and mango leading up to the mouthwatering, medium-sweet finish.

Amelia Wynn 2019 Pinot Gris, $20
91 pts. – Outstanding
Fresh aromas of ripe apple, white pear and mineral notes leap from the glass, mingling with limestone and zesty citrus accents on the crisp palate. The finish shows lovely finesse and depth.
