The Estates Wine Room Features Double Canyon & Archery Summit

July 21, 2016

crimson-3winesThe Estates Wine Room is an urban tasting room is in the historic Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle. The chic wine bar offers tiered tasting flights, glass pours and small plates of charcuterie and cheese. The Estates Wine Room showcases Double Canyon and Archery Summit, as well as Seven Hills Winery which was recently acquired by Crimson Wine Group.

Flights of Pinot Noir, Cabernet and other Bordeaux varietal red wines produced by these “sister” wineries truly complement each other.

Double Canyon’s vineyard manager, Will Beightol, works a stone’s throw from where he originally grew up on his family’s Phinny Hill Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.

“Our philosophy at Double Canyon is to deliver best-of-class Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington,” Will told Tasting Room Magazine. The 2012 Cab is concentrated and elegant, crafted entirely from estate fruit.

Chris Mazepink is the winemaker for Archery Summit, responsible for all vineyard and winemaking operations. Located in Oregon’s Dundee Hills (a sub-appellation of the Willamette Valley) they are known for Pinot Noir sourced across six estate vineyards. The Arcus Estate Pinot Noir is gorgeous now, and will only continue to improve with cellar aging.

The wines featured below, along with offerings from Seven Hills Winery, can be tasted at The Estates Wine Room, open daily at 307 Occidental Ave South in Seattle.

Double Canyon 2012 Double Canyon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, $65

Editor’s Choice – Outstanding
This lovely single-vineyard Cabernet is sourced from a stellar site in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA and is rounded out with touches of Syrah and Malbec for added depth and balance.
Nose: Fresh scents of plum and bright red berries mingled with dried floral notes of lavender and thyme.
Taste: Concentrated, distinctive and elegant, offering complex layers of cherry, red plum, tobacco, vanill wafer and anise. Solidly structured, with lively acidity and powdery fine tannins that push through the finish.

Double Canyon 2013 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon, $25

Editor’s Choice – Excellent
This red wine was aged 17 months in oak and the grapes were sourced from three renown vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA: Double Canyon, Phinny Hill and Champoux.
Aromas of dark fruit and cigar wrapper lead to balanced, smooth flavors of black cherry and dark plum that evolve into wider expressions of jammy blackberry and black currant. Edges of blue fruit, leather, spice and plush sweet tannins grace the finish.

Archery Summit 2013 Arcus Estate Dundee Hills Pinot Noir, $100

Editor’s Choice – Outstanding
This single-vineyard Pinot comes from Oregon’s prestigious Dundee Hills AVA.
Nose: Earthy and expressive, with aromas of black cherry, red berries, roses, white blossoms, clay and dusky spice.
Taste: Poised, lively and intensely structured, with a solid backbone of dried cherry and black raspberry flavors followed by earthier layers of leather, mushroom, truffle and well-integrated tannins leading into the powerful finish.
