Lone Point Cellars Brings Wine, Food & Lodging to Brewster

March 13, 2020

Bluff cottages offer panoramic views at Lone Point Cellars in Okanogan County, Washington

The idea for Lone Point Cellars was born during a Hawaiian family vacation, turning into a grand project along the way. After years of farming fruit orchards on Brewster flats in the north central region of the state, Jim and Dana Divis wanted to try their hand at something new. They already had a background in farming to get vines planted and a winery started, but wanted an out-of-the-box idea to set them apart.

“We felt that to be successful in this somewhat remote area, we would need the complete package—tasting room, restaurant, rental cottages, venue and vineyard,” says Jim. After plenty of brain storming sessions with involvement from their children and extended family members, plans were made to launch a getaway resort. Jim says it was the perfect fit for Dana’s career experience in catering and weddings along with his passion for farming.

Extensive estate vineyard at Lone Point Cellars

“I saw the business, winemaking and vineyard as a new challenge that reinvigorated and elevated my passion for farming,” Jim says, who brought in consulting winemaker Joe Hudon early on. The results are paying dividends; the reserve Bordeaux style red wine we recently sampled would make a worthy addition to any cellar collection.

The tasting room and restaurant boast a large outdoor seating area complete with fire pits and an outdoor kitchen right on the edge of the bluff, overlooking the confluence of the Okanogan and Columbia rivers. A full breakfast and lunch menu is offered in the restaurant, while chef’s dinners are hosted weekly.

Six rental cottages sit near the edge of the bluff offering views of the valley below, living room, gas fireplace and kitchenette. The grand views offer a spectacular setting to spend an afternoon or weekend.

You will discover the Lone Point Cellars experience at 6 Lakeview Way in Brewster, WA; check website for seasonal hours at www.lonepointcellars.com.

Below are 3 releases we recently reviewed:

Lone Point Cellars 2017 Last Point Reserve Red Wine, $44
Editor’s Choice – Outstanding (91-94 pts.)
This Bordeaux varietal red is tightly coiled, filled with expressions of tobacco, espresso and flint details acutely balanced with dark fruit flavors of cassis, black plum and blackberry. Deeply concentrated, with gripping tannins and good structure that stays sharply focused and on-point through the energetic finish.

Lone Point Cellars 2017 Side-By-Side Red Wine, $34
Editor’s Choice – Excellent (88-90 pts.)
Lush and smoothly structured, with crushed cherry and plum fruit carrying distinctive notes of violet and toasted cedar. Light hints of chocolate and tobacco linger on the finish.

Lone Point Cellars 2018 Rosé, $22
Editor’s Choice – Excellent (88-90 pts.)
An elegant version crafted from Tempranillo, exhibiting crisp citrus backed with white cherry and rose petal flavors that co-mingle effortlessly on the rich, full-flavored finish.
