Buty 2013 Sémillon, Sauvignon & Muscadelle, $25

July 28, 2015

Buty-2013-Semillon-Sauvignon-&-Muscadelle-Founded in 2000 by Nina Buty, the winery’s talent includes winemaker Chris Dowsett and acclaimed consultanting winemaker Zelma Long. In 2013, Buty Cellars began harvesting Sémillon for this traditional white Bordeaux style blend from Boushey Vineyard. They also source Sémillon from the oldest block of Rosebud Ranch on the warm Wahluke Slope. Using grapes from these very different sites contributes to the layered complexity of this wine, as does the addition of Muscadelle and Sauvignon blanc from Lonesome Spring Ranch.

Nose: Aromatics of seductive smoky herbs, straw, honeysuckle and white flowers.

Taste: Creamy mouthfeel with enticing layers of gooseberry, lemon curd, apricot, green almond and tarragon. Spice notes persist on the lively, mineral-edged finish.

Food Pairing: Seared diver scallops with porcini mushroom crust, risotto and asparagus.

Editor’s Choice – Outstanding
