New Prosser Store Features Wine-Themed Home Furnishings By American Artisans

August 15, 2012

Have a few hours at your leisure in Prosser, WA?  Shop for home furnishings and decor that blends whimsy and sophistication into a colorful, fun experience.  Or rent a bicycle to explore local wineries or microbreweries, or follow your impulse and create your own bicycle tour through this charming community.

Pizzazz!, in Historic Downtown Prosser, is a new locally-owned shop specializing in home decor, gifts and greeting cards.  They also rent bicycles, by the hour or day, for easy riding around Prosser and its wine country roads.  To complement a ride, the shop also offers a few specialty foods, including selections from Cheese Louise of Richland and Theo Chocolate, based in Seattle.

The store is the only Northwest representative of Houston-based David Marsh and carries the Sticks line from Iowa, including many wine-themed pieces.  Proprietor Candace Andrews said she chose the lines to represent American artisans who create functional art.  Andrews first saw Marsh’s work in Montana seven years ago, “I fell in love with it; I’ve never seen anything like his colorful, whimsical, functional furniture.”

Marsh uses Ponderosa Pine, primarily from the eastern Cascade Mountains, to construct his furniture and accessories. He and his small crew hand craft and decorate each piece in his Houston workshop. The distinct “Marsh style” includes hand painting, use of handmade stamps and rollers, and numerous coats of planet-friendly, water-based lacquer, along with marbles and tacks inlaid into the wood.  Recently, Marsh has begun incorporating reclaimed and found objects into his new “Revived” line.

A team of artisans at Sticks, based in Des Moines, Iowa, hand crafts pieces from birch, poplar and driftwood, then enhances them with hand-drawn imagery, etched contouring and vibrantly blended paints.

Andrews has created a vibrantly-colored shop in which to display her wares.  “I wanted a shop that is unlike any other in our area in both appearance and products.  I’ve chosen colors and product lines that bring smiles to people’s faces and remind them how much they really do love this life.”

Pizzazz is online at www.prosserpizzazz.com, on Facebook at ProsserWAPizzazz and on Twitter at ProsserPizzazz.

Run by Andrews and her husband Rick James, the shop opens at 10am seven days a week and is located at 1110 Meade Avenue in Historic Downtown Prosser.
