Go Green on the Electromotion Wine Tour of Lake Chelan

July 20, 2013

On August 24, 2013 you can support the green movement and enjoy wine tasting at the same time. Join in the electric-car only “Electromotion Wine Tour” of Lake Chelan wineres. This event is a fun-and-fund-raiser to buy charging stations for electric cars in central Washington.

Pam Garrison will be the Tour Master. The first stop will be at an Italian country retreat-style winery, Tsillan Cellars, on a site reminiscent of the Italian countryside, with estate vineyards of long, green, leafy rows, drawing your eye down to the view of Lake Chelan. This winery specializes in weddings because brides love its grand vistas.

From there you’ll travel to Benson Estate Vineyards and Winery. The Bensons used to live in Mill Creek, Wash., but slowly migrated “over the hill” to Chelan where they had weekend property, which is now a winery and tasting room with another grand view of Lake Chelan. They started in a lowly shed where wine production and tasting room shared space. Over the years they constructed a two-story tasting facility with a venue for small events and a fantastic view of their estate vineyards stretching west, and backed by rugged, snow-capped mountains for rows of grapes planted toward the north.

You’ll picnic in a peach orchard overlooking Lake Chelan at Vin du Lac Winery, as the day cools and we wind down from a day of enjoying the sunshine, spectacular scenery, tasting excellent wine and meeting new folks. Saturday evenings are jazz nights at Vin du Lac winery. The owner and winemaker of Vin du Lac says that “travels to Paris and Provence” inspired him while remodeling the old farmhouse where their tasting room is located into a modern but homey venue. They planted vineyards next to the orchards on a sunny site on Lake Chelan’s north shore, and placed picnic tables under the trees.

A registration form will be sent to you via e-mail upon payment of the registration fee. There are charging opportunities available for tour participants (240V/40A NEMA 14-50 and TT-30 110V/30A) The registration fee includes L2 Charging for up to 5 hours, One “tasting fee” (additional available a registration, $7.50 each) Tour Master services.

In addition to the registration fee, the organizers are seeking donations. All of the donated money will be applied to purchasing and installing high amperage L2 chargers along Highway 97 between Wenatchee and Osoyoos, BC. The first phase plan will deploy three Clipper Creek CS-90 units needed to raise about $6,000 to complete this phase. Come join us for the tour and enjoy a great time and support extending the electric highway across Washington.
