Avenue Wine Group Launches Custom Crush and Alternating Proprietorship in Walla Walla

May 2, 2012

Wine industry veteran Janet Byerley, and longtime award-winning winemaker, Brian Carlson, have joined forces to launch Avenue Wine Group, a winery specializing in custom crush and alternating proprietor services, in Walla Walla, WA.

Located at the original Waterbrook Winery facility, Avenue Wine Group offers a wide range of services customized to each client’s specific needs. The recently upgraded 20,000-square-foot facility has produced up to 48,000 cases a year, and is now capable of accommodating both small and medium lots. Located in a pastoral setting just west of town, the winery has a large crush area and ample pressing capabilites, fermenters, lab, barrel storage, a bottling line, case storage, and plenty of logistical space for receiving and loading.

“This has been a working winery since 1984, and has served as the once production facility for a number of great wineries in the valley, including Waterbrook, Cayuse, Seven Hills, and Three Rivers,” says Byerley.  “The name, Avenue Wine Group, represents the access offered for Northwest wineries to reach their winemaking potential.”

Resident winemaker Brian Carlson graduated from the esteemed Viticulture and Enology program at University of California, Davis back in 1988, and was the first college-trained winemaker in the Walla Walla Valley. He has produced award-winning wines for a number of wineries in the valley starting in 1992 at Waterbrook Winery, and later for Spring Valley Vineyards, Cougar Crest Winery, and Le Chateau Winery. He is available for everything from client directed, hands-on production, from crush through bottling, including on-site lab work, to consultation and other winemaking needs for Custom/AP clients.

General manager, Janet Byerley has worked in many different sectors of the wine industry.  The former co-founder/owner of Waterbrook Winery started in the cellar and excelled as a leader in brand building, finance, compliance, sales and marketing for over 20 years.
