Kinhaven in Walla Walla Branches into Woodinville

November 19, 2024

Managing partners of Kinhaven, Kasey and Cameron Davenport, at the grand opening of the Woodinville tasting room

Managed by Kasey and Cameron Davenport, Kinhaven is the newest place to gather in Woodinville over luxe boutique wines sourced primarily from the Walla Walla Valley AVA. The satellite tasting room sits in the Hollywood District of town in the same retail hub as Purple Café and Wine Bar.

Cameron is a chef-turned-winemaker who strives for aromatics, complexity and balance in the wines. The 2021 vintage of their Estate Cabernet is packed with black and red fruit stitched with snowflake-like tannins and a deep, memorable finish. The grapes come from the Davenport family’s vineyard that surrounds the flagship tasting room and winery in pastoral Walla Walla with views of the Blue Mountains.

“We opened in Woodinville to have a closer connection with our Kinship on the state’s Westside,” says Kasey Davenport. She quickly adds, “And we have family in the Seattle area so we love the excuse to come over!” Kinhaven’s founders are Lisa and Terry Davenport, who renovated the historic Boyer House several years ago and folded it into the winery’s portfolio of experiences—it’s a one-of-a-kind 1909 neoclassical home near downtown Walla Walla that rents out to those seeking a grand wine country vacation.

Kasey says she hopes customers who visit the satellite tasting room will “visit us in Walla Walla once they have the opportunity to make it over for their wine country vacation after being introduced to us in Woodinville, or vice versa.”

Framed over the quartz tasting bar is a textural painting from international artist Roy Lerner. “It is the centerpiece of the tasting room anchored by our wines,” points out Kasey. “It’s awe inspiring as you sip wine, and I love the title as it definitely resonates with us: I Said I Would.”

The tasting room is located at 14436 Redmond-Woodinville Rd NE, Woodinville, WA; (425) 892-0239, visit www.kinhavenwinery.com to learn more.

Below are three releases we recently reviewed:

Kinhaven 2021 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
94 pts.
Lush, yet densely structured, with mesmerizing powdery tannins that pull you into an earthy ensemble of violet, leather and tobacco leaf, streaming with compact blackberry, plum and red currant notes. The concentrated finish is deep, inlaid with crushed rock hints. Decant at least an hour to fully open. $80

Kinhaven 2022 The Bossy Badger
93 pts.
An enticing mix of dark berries and savory baker’s chocolate, sage and thyme that play smartly off the blackberry cobbler and cherry paste flavors. Made almost entirely with free run juice, this Cabernet-dominant red is rich, structured and expansive, delivering finely-integrated tannins supported by high-toned acidity inlaid with anise and loamy details that emerge on the finish. Sourced from four Walla Walla Valley vineyards. $55
Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Kinhaven 2022 Dwelley Vineyard Carménère
93 pts.
Generous aromatics open with enticing roasted capsicum pepper, peppercorn and cedar plank. This Walla Walla Valley red is smoothly structured, offering a beam of tart raspberry-cranberry inlaid with umami details of mulberry, pink peppercorn and violet that find their stride on the vibrant finish. There’s an underlying elegance that showcases the prowess of this varietal as a sought-after and elevated food-friendly wine. $65
